About Me: Mary Gazea

I am a Munich-based, abstract artist who grew up in a Greek household, shaped by the values, rhythms, and traditions of Greek culture.

For many Greeks living abroad, Greece remains both a place of origin and a place of longing. It is the quiet tension between opportunity and belonging, between a life built elsewhere and a home that is deeply missed. This emotional landscape forms the foundation of my artistic practice.

My abstract paintings translate this inner Greece into color, movement, and atmosphere. Inspired by the sea, sunlight, and a deep zest for life, my work reflects both calm and unpredictability — much like life itself. Greece is present not as imagery, but as energy: warmth, resilience, and emotional depth.

I believe that joy is a choice — not because life is always easy, but because we decide how we engage with it. This philosophy is embedded in my process. Each painting is carefully planned in color and composition, yet open enough to allow the unexpected to emerge. Control and surrender exist side by side.

Themes of family, self-determination, and quiet strength recur throughout my work. Rooted in Greek culture and personal experience, they speak to belonging, protection, and inner confidence.

    The online gallery was very inspiring and we quickly decided to go for a customized supernova painting perfectly fitting our wall. During a call Mary asked specific questions about what we like and don’t like on other art pieces she created which helped us to understand which elements and colours we aimed for, for the commission piece. After deciding for the colours and size we trusted in Mary’s skills and experience to generate our perfect supernova. The painting itself was in perfect shape after being perfectly wrapped and personally delivered. The quality is amazing and we tust its ability to last decades. Why I chose this artwork: The space fascinates me and pictures from the Hubble telescope always were very interesting for me. Having our own supernova gives me the opportunity to day dream and enjoying a view into another world.

    "After we decided to get some Art for our new home we were not sure where to put paintings, which size it should have nor which form. Mary did a great job via video calls to support us in the decision making and made some small test pieces as we liked have green as one of the main colours which was not used in other paintings, yet. The paintings were prepared very well for shipment and arrived well after the personal delivery. A commission art work was the perfect solution to combine all our ideas with Mary’s expertise.     "I wanted something special for my office and the opportunity to get a custom made „piece unique“ was just too tempting. I am proud to say that Mary agreed to take a custom order trying green as a primary color for the first time. The result is „Fireflies“ and it is absolutly stunning. Its mix of different shapes of green along with golden sprinkles is amazing. She kept me in the loop of the production process and i was always excited receiving updates. It now resides in my office and the quality is just extraordinary. It is shiny and well executed and catches everyones eye."

In crafting my artworks, I employ high-quality, archival acrylic paints and pouring media on stretched canvases. My collection predominantly features pieces brought to life through the acrylic pouring technique, complemented by spray paints and oil colors. Select artworks are crafted through more traditional methods utilizing brushes and palette knives. Every piece arrives ready to hang and finished with a professional varnish that protects your new painting from dust, UV light and humidity.
